Affinity Conversation: Instructional Designers

Instructional designers can play an important role in helping faculty move from simply adopting open educational resources to thoughtfully integrating openness into course design and teaching. Their expertise in learning design, accessibility, educational technology, and faculty development can make them valuable partners in building and sustaining open education initiatives.

Join the Open Education Association for an affinity conversation focused on the role of instructional designers in open education. This session will bring together instructional designers, open education practitioners, and others interested in exploring how these roles can work together to support faculty and strengthen student learning.

During the conversation, participants will:

• Explore the different ways instructional designers contribute to OER adoption, adaptation, and creation.
• Discuss opportunities to incorporate open pedagogy, accessibility, and inclusive course design into instructional design practices.
• Share approaches for collaboration among instructional designers, librarians, faculty, and open education staff.
• Exchange ideas for building greater awareness of open education within instructional design teams and integrating open practices into existing faculty support.

Whether instructional design is already an integral part of your open education work or you are looking for ways to build stronger connections, this conversation will offer an opportunity to share experiences and learn from colleagues across the community.
